Team News & Logistics
The deadline for applications has come and gone. If you know anyone who still may be interested in joining us on the "sly," we still need to know so we can appropriately plan for sagging. To the best of my knowledge, we still could use a volunteer or two to drive this year. We haven't heard from the illusive Captain in a while, but when we do we'll post a full list of this year's riders. Sounds like we have a good size, somewhat eclectic crew again this year. So far the plan is holding - fly into Omaha on Friday, spend the night with our gracious hosts the Sommerers, then sail to the ride start at a reasonable time on Saturday. Rumor has it both Mr. & Mrs. Sommerer will be riding a part day with us this year, as well as Super Dave's son. Son of Super Dave? Less than Super Dave is already taken (LSD, a.k.a. Slacker Dave, will be joining us again this year). Terrible, Tenacious Tyler? What experiences will this young man happen upon? What unforeseen bike gremlins will whimsically test his father's mechanical prowess? Who knows what nickname will be bestowed on this young man as he ventures out into the tortuous, uncharted, viscous waters known by many only as .....Ragbrai...... Check out PBC's Tidbits updates for on and off the bike training hints. Anyone wishing to submit content for the web pages please let me know - it would be greatly appreciated. Diaries... Still a $2.00 reward for pictures of SDave or PBC eating turkey legs. To be filed under the "isn't that interesting" category: Gearless Kent was the first to submit his application to the Cap'n this year. OK. Applications are due in the Captain's hands by March 15! This is soon! The costs this year are as follows: For the full week, the sagging cost per rider is $140. This includes $$$ for the van, trailer, fuel, vehicle passes, munchies after the ride, and several 6-packs of beer. As you know, costs seem to increase every year, and we've added a little extra in for increases in fuel costs. It pains us that the costs seem to always go up, but we still feel $140 for a week of sagging is pretty reasonable for a chock-a-block week of fun. Ragbrai wristbands this year have increased to $100, so the total cost for a full week is $240. The Cap says this year's jerseys are "cool" (he's hip, man) and are $38. So, you need to send: 1) your application with the signed waiver, and 2) a check for $240 ($278 if you would like a jersey) to Captain Kevin by March 15! His address is: (Email me or the Cap'n if you need the address) Tentative plans remain at this point: Fly into Omaha on Friday, spend the evening with the wonderful and gracious Sommerer family, build bikes, then head for Sioux City on Saturday. (I understand Mrs. Sommerer will be joining us for a day ride this year.) We may wait until Saturday in Sioux City to build bikes. Jersey Update: PBC and his talented friends have been designing Please let us know as soon as possible your plans. BTW - we do need saggers, I think. Let the Cap'n know if anyone would be interested! Just added: PBC's Tidbits - updated training rides to prep for Ragbrai (the Wine Country Century link is here!) Just to get psyched, visit the Museum of Ragbrai Buses to get the batteries charged. Maybe someday the ole Cap'n will send us a picture or our new bus?
Just a little motivation. PBC found this one somewhere. For most of you this goes without saying, but that would be Happy Pam's butt. Strategery.
