The Piano Franz Liszt Played This is the Chickering piano which bested Steinway during the intense competition of the era by being awarded the Imperial Cross of the Legion of Honour from Emperor Napoleon III at the Great Paris Exposition of 1867. It is the same model given to Franz Liszt by Frank Chickering for Christmas that year. Its twin is displayed in the Liszt Museum in Budapest. The piano was also the favored piano of Edvard Grieg. To this day many experts consider the scaling and balance to be the best example of the time, bettering even Steinway. The stoutly constructed rim and straight stringing produce a rich bass tone. Exquisite Art Case Constructed of irreplaceable Brazilian Rosewood, the piano is adorned with reeding (the cable-like rope carving) and massive cabriole legs. Note the straight side angles to the left, a style copied by Steinway as seen in the "cocked hat" piano displayed in the Smithsonian. From Washington's Own "Last Territorial Governor's Mansion" hoteles en LovainaRemoved from the beautiful 1883 Victorian mansion in Walla Walla when the home was purchased by the Peter Buck family, this historic Instrument has been lovingly restored by the finest craftsmen to create a completely usable modern grand.
