The Wisconsin Foundation for School Music (WFSM) and the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) plan to open the Center in July 2002, benefiting both teachers and students of Wisconsin as well as the greater community. Commenting on the chosen location of the Wisconsin Center for Music Education in Arboretum Office Park, WSMA Executive Director Mike George said, "Three sites near the I90/94 corridor on the northeast side of Madison were considered for the Center. This location provides convenient access to people from the greater community as well as those travelling to the Center from throughout Wisconsin. It also provides an environment conducive to the purposes of the Center and the needs of those using it." Blackpool hôtelsDescribed as a business development community, the Arboretum Office Park was designed by Waunakee businessmen Dick Pilsner and Don Tierney, whose vision of the 42-acre site was to preserve the natural aesthetics and landscape of the area in order to foster a community atmosphere for area businesses. The development is situated on Arboretum Drive on the far east side of Waunakee. Neighboring recreation sites include a bike path, a park, and an arboretum. The WFSM and the WSMA have launched their capital campaign, "Music Education: A Sound Investment," to raise funds for the 10,000 square foot Wisconsin Center for Music Education. Arboretum Office Park will donate $10,000 to the campaign. The Center will provide educational resources to music educators and students such as a distance-learning lab, a recording studio, conference space for workshops, and a music library. Over 200,000 Wisconsin students are involved annually in activities offered by the WSMA, with participation increasing by 40% over the past six years, according to George.
