Buying a Used Piano

Buying a used piano can be risky, especially if the buyer or seller is uninformed. We recommend Larry Fine's The Piano Book to all of our customers. Written as a true consumer's guide to piano buying, the author provides thorough information on both new and used pianos. Copies are available in the showroom.

Every piano at Seattle Piano Gallery has been thoroughly inspected by a piano technician. Problems or defects are repaired before the instrument is put up for sale.

Piano Care

hoteles AtenasProper care of any piano begins with finding a qualified piano technician. For professional piano service in the Greater Seattle Area we recommend:

  • Kenn Wildes — 425 836 3860 Sammamish, Bellevue and Seattle
  • Fred Juhos — 425 241 1655 Redmond to Edmonds
  • Lou Novak — 425-369-9272 Issaquah, Maple Valley, Bellevue and Seattle

Regular maintenance of your piano is essential if you want to keep it performing well and preserve its value. A stable environment is the best place for a piano. Few folks have the luxury of a climate controlled piano room, so here are some simple tips:

  • Avoid placing the piano near sources of extreme temperature such as central heating vents, radiators and air conditioning systems. (Close vents, cap, or seal with duct tape affixed to the backside of the vent fixture.)
  • Appartements a GdyniaAvoid placing the piano next to an "outside" wall if possible. (This is less of an issue in homes that are well insulated.)

  • The ideal relative humidity for a piano is 50-60%, while people prefer 40-50%. Seattle's natural climate is generally friendly to pianos. You can minimize the effect of dry air during the winter months by lowering the thermostat and wearing a sweater.
  • Never place cups, plates or any eating utensils on a piano. One accidental spill may ruin strings, action parts and finish work.
  • Ponta hotel roomsOnly place a piano on a level floor.
  • Play! Pianos are happier with regular use.
