 | | | |  | | The developers of Drax Hall Estate have recognized that tourism developments market the environment and that their success is intimately linked to the health of the natural environment. For this reason Drax Hall Estate has been designed as a unique, sustainable and environmentally friendly development. Even on completion of all the facilities planned for the 800 acre site, this will remain a low density "green" development at only six habitable rooms per acre. An Environmental Impact Assessment report has rated the water quality offshore as excellent for swimming and the coral reefs are in pristine condition with diverse marine life for spectacular snorkeling.
Preservation of trees on the estate is a top priority and the golf course designers have incorporated much of the existing woodlands into the design of the golf course. Adequate water supply for construction and operation of all the resort facilities is already installed by the developers and no underground water will be extracted on site for the resort. Sewage is treated to tertiary level by a sophisticated system of facultative and maturation ponds, and the treated, nutrient rich effluent will be used to irrigate the golf course. Surface runoff is collected and filtered naturally by a system of grassy swales running through the entire property, and will be treated in the golf course lakes before release into the river through a littoral shelf.
