You can build a country cottage of stone. The stone cottage (designed by Auroville) will cost you around Rs.1,000/- per sq. ft. (the cost will vary depending on your specifications).

However, eco-friendly methods have some restrictions. You can only build on 2,800 sq. ft. of ground area in one acre. You can only build ground floor plus one. All cottages will have a sloping roof with a provision for rainwater harvesting.

Note: The Auroville Building Centre can also provide you with a cottage design that suits your unique tastes. This however, will be provided at an additional cost.
